The City of Phoenix area code (602) inspired a yearly celebration of the Arizona community every June 2nd. Phoenix's Community and Economic Development Team facilitates celebrations with small business, community organizations, neighbors, and leaders to promote growth and AZ spirit every year since 2025.

2026
Celebrate bright mornings and cool nights in the Arizona desert with GenZ PhD's second annual free community giveaway. No payment, no risks, no strings. This year's goodies include original desert-inspired designs on small decorative pennant sand refrigerator magnets. Picking between 2 handmade felt pennants and 3 handmade magnets, over 300 free gifts were sent to Arizonans living locally and around the US. All of the magnet designs were made using scans of natural materials from our backyards - Bouganvillea, terracotta, Mexican Bird of Paradise, oranges, and lemons. Along with the felt pennants, everything is made, packaged, and shipped by hand (no AI here!). We only support USPS with any of our shipping needs and over 400 stamps were used for 602 Day in 2026. With a 650% increase in request for free handmade gifts since last year, we are excited to see what 2027 celebrations of 602 Day have in store for us!
2025
Send a little love in the mail! A handmade card with any custom requests was sent (for free!) to a friend, loved one, or the sender themselves to celebrate the City of Phoenix's first annual 602 Day. After completing the form with the recipient's address and any notes or themes requested, we got to work making over 40 cards by hand, personalizing each one with love and care to brighten the day of the recipient. Heartwarming notes included motivation for summer reading from teachers to students, check-ins from old roommates who are now on opposite coasts, letters to grandparents with love or to community members themselves with messages to read in a couple of weeks. All cards were lovingly posted with stamps from USPS and hand-delivered to our friendly neighborhood post office. See you next year!
